its meter, fostering a highly subjective approach to time. One aspect of Shubho Lhaw Qolo that is immediately noticeable is its use of non-traditional notation. For example, instead of a traditional time signature, I start

with an “X” which signifies a lack of time signature (see figure 1). Different time-layers are clearly marked, such as the bass part having no bar lines.
