Palaschko caught more public success when a newly published composition was listed in October 1898’s Musikalisch . The periodical listed Opus 20, Drei Stücke ( Three Pieces) for violin and piano published by Ries & Erler in Berlin. 9 During his lifetime, Palaschko would be mentioned in music periodicals over 40 times as his new music was published. These listings act as advertisement or notification that new music was available for purchase. The advertisements not only served to promote the music, but showed that Palaschko’s music was popular enough to mention. After his study at Berlin’s Hochschule , Palaschko performed in concert tours and published new works for violin and viola. The next year brought more publication success, an advertisement, and a review of his work. In January 1900, Signale, no. 14, advertised for op. 26. 10 Then in October, Signale reviewed op. 26 as well as two other composers’ work: Hans Sitt’s, op. 67, and “Four Etudes” by Ludwig Kell. Published by the same [Hans Sitt] publisher, “Five Easy Etudes” by Johannes Palaschko, Op. 26, to whom the composer has no greater musical fame than ambitious violinist, who are still in their midst of violin, and what they have left to ask for, which the piano for yourself additionally and happily supports. Being a good violinist has served him well for composition. The five etudes include “Melody”, “Capriccioso”, “Oriental Dance”, “Serenade” and “Scherzo”. Your price is between 1 Mf. And 1 Mf. 50 Pf. 11 The reviewer described Palaschko as an “ambitious” and “good” violinist, which speaks to notoriety amongst his peers; but the statement that his violin playing effected his compositional style inferred prodigy in both the performer’s stage and the composer’s pen. Over the next few years his publications and public recognition would increase. From 1900-1913, Palaschko published 25% of his total compositional output, but it would be his viola etudes, op. 49, that would garner the public’s attention. Opus 26: 5 Little Violin Pieces.
