I 0. Complete Three-Octave Scale System with Bowings These bowing groups and rhythm and bowing variations can be used on whatever scale system you like. Bowing Groups I have divided the various basic bow strokes into two major categories: Martele group (forearm-initiated strokes) and Spiccato group (finger-initiated strokes). I begin with the most aggressive bow stroke, martele, and work my way down to the lightest stroke, sautille. I find it a good, comprehensive way to warm up every aspect of the left and right hands.
