JAVS Spring 2025

Example 21. BWV 997, Gigue, mm. 25-28.

Example 22. BWV 997, Gigue, mm. 33-34.

The suite ends with a double based on the preceding gigue. To imitate the aesthetic of perpetual motion in the Presto from BWV 1001, I only include some bass notes

necessary to complete the harmony, such as mm. 1-2 and 28. I also include bass notes in mm. 17-18 to have a sense of symmetry with mm. 1-2 (See Examples 23).

Example 23. BWV 997, Double, mm. 1-4.
