Music Sources: Recordings T here are many recordings of the Walron Vio la Concerto with the 1962 o rchestration. V io lists and violinists have been eager to record this work, includ ing Nobuko Imai, Yuri Bashmet, (Nigel) Kennedy, Yehudi Menuhin, etc. 1 have found only two ava ilable with the original orchestration: W illiam Walton: Vio la Concerto, Frederick Riddle, viola, William W:'llton, conductor. Lady Walton offers a chatty inside look at t he li fe of her famous husband . Informative and entertaining with frequent borrowings from other texts. Wel lington, C hristopher. "Hidden H armony. " The St rad. 11 2: 1334 (June 200 1): 618-62 1. It is in this article that Mr. Wellington first intro duces his newly edited Oxford edition of the complete works of Walton. William Walton Edition, Volume 12: Concerto for Viola and O rchestra. ed. C hris topher Wel lington. London: Oxford University Press, 2002. Th is is an outstandi ng resource and yet another "must have" for the serious violist. It is thorough ly researched, fully documented and annotated, with an excel lent foreword by editor Christopher Wel lington. I cannot recommend it highly enough .
