Viola Faculty and Orcbestra Conductor
At the San Francisco Conservatory, we have a facclty for great rrmsic,
Don Ehrlicll, assistant princi pal viola of the San Francisco Symphony, has been a frequent soloist and chamber musician in the BayArea and around the world . He received h is B.M. from Oberlin Cons ervatory, his M.M. from the Manha ttan Schoo l of Music and his D.MA from the University of Michigan. Leonid Gesin is a member of the San Francisco Symphony and several chamber mus ic groups including the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. He studied with AG. Sosin at the Leningrad State Conservatory, then performed with the Leningrad State Philharmonic and taught before emigrating to the United States. Paul Hersh, former violist and pianist of the Lenox Quane t, studied viola with William Primrose and attended Yale University. He has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Chambe r Orchestra and many other groups. He has also made a number of record ings and has been artist-in-residence at un iversities and music festivals in the U.S. and Europe. Isa,lore Tinkleman studied with Konschak and Weinstock at the Manh attan Schoo l of Music and with Raphael Bronstein in private lessons. He headed the Violin Depanment at the Portland Schoo l of Music before becomi ng director of the Ponland Community Music Center
Gerald ine walther, principal violist of the San Fran cisco Sympho ny, is former assistant principal of the Pittsburgh Symphony and a partic ipant in the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with Michael Tree and at the Manh attan Schoo l of Music with Lillian Fuchs, and won first prize in the William Primrose Viola Competi tion in 1979. Denis de C oteau, music director and conductor for the San Francisco Ballet Orches tra, has conducted dance companies, youth orches tras and major symphonies throughou t the world . He has received a variety of awards and commenda tions, earned his BA and MA in music from New York University, and holds a D.MA from Stanford University.
