THE AMERICAN VIOLA SOCIETY: A HISTORY AND REFERENCE SECOND EDITION
Why Transcribing is Real Cool To me, transcribing is almost sacred. It lets me render works I adore, and it gives me an alluring excuse to study these works’ secrets thoroughly. The possibilities multiply when no music is off limits. There will always be pieces that lend themselves better to transcription than others; but that is where the grace of critical temperament comes in: the art of sensing which pieces are begging you to play them most. It is a delightful learning curve, one that I am still in the beginning processes of summiting. But even so, it has already helped me create works that I can say I am truly proud of.
