I n January of 1992. violist C aba Erdelyi returned to his nati' e Hun gary for a concert to be broadcast li\e from the Budapest Opera. "It was a double premiere." say Erdelyi. "I spent ten years restoring Bartok' iola concerto from his origi nal manu cript, and this wa its debut. It wa al o the fir t concerto perfor mance for my Joseph Curtin viola. Both were praised highly." C aba Erdelyi established his pre - ence in the mu ic world with another fir t. In 1972 he became the only' iola player ever to win the prestigiou Carl Fie ch International Viol in Competi tion. He went on to sene as principal of the Ph ilharn10nia Orchestra and violi t in the Chilingirian Quartet.
