Richard Ferrin and Li-Kuo Chang, CMC Viola Faculty

Li-Kuo Chang, appointed assistant principal viola of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra by Sir Georg olci in 1988, held similar positions in Ch ina, Europe. and the United Scares, including assistan t principal viola of the Denver Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory, he was rhe fi rst violist ro win rhe Young Anise Compecirion in Shanghai. In rhe United Stares he srudied with Francis Tursi ar the Eastman cbool of Music, and with Milron Thomas, Donald Mcinnes. Paul Dokror and William Magers. Li-Kuo Chang has appeared as soloist wi th the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, and che Shanghai Symphony Orchestra; in chamber music performances ar the Los Angeles Music Center, at Le Gesse Festival in France and the Taipei Music fescival in Taiwan, co just name a few. He has taught and performed at the Affinis Music Festival in Japan since 1992. Richard Ferrin, violist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1967, bas enjoyed a distinguished career as soloist, chamber musician. symphony member and teacher. Concertmaster of the interlochen \Vorld Youth Symphony as a teen, he studied viola and violin at Eastman and the University of Southern California, at rhe Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and visited the Soviet Union in 1962 ro study pedagogy in Leningrad, Moscow, Kiev and Odessa. Richard Ferrin has been soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Easrman Rochesrer Symphony O rchesrra, the Finnish Radio Orchestra, and the Houston Symphony, and in 1986 gave the first performances of the Barrok Viola Concmo with the hanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Cenrral Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing. As a violist of Chicago Pro Musica, he has performed at international festivals in Japan, Ausrralia, Spain. Germany, and the former Soviet Union. Mr. Ferrin and Mr. Chang's ming Faculty colleagues ar Chicago Mus ical College include viounisrs Cyrus Forough, Joseph Golan , Yuko Mori (in 1999), and Alben Wang, cellist 1 aralia Khoma and John Sharp, and bassist rephen Lester.
