Primrose International Viola Archive (PNA)

placed tanding orders with everal international library uppliers to enhance the Primro e Archive. The library was al o fortunate enough to acquire the per onal collections of late eminent violi t Ern t Wallfi ch and Paul Doktor, and tho e of Jan Albrecht, Walter Lebermann, and Rudolf Tretz ch; Fran~oi de Beaumont' phonodi c col lection; and the library of Franz Zeyringer, the large t private collection yet donated to PIVA. Zeyringer wa the founder and longtime president of the International Viola Society. PIVA i now the largest repo itory of materials relating to the viola in the world. Moreover, creation of a separate Primrose Room to hou e and ervice the varied dimen ion of PIVA i underway. Contribution of materials to PIVA are invited and welcome. The ingular legacy that Primro e left a a mu ician, recording arti t, and articulate expo nent of hi in trument ha prompted BYU to honor hi legacy. Thu , in 1974 Primro e, Dalton, and officials of the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU esrabli hed a viola mu ic archive that has become a resource center for students, professional and amateur violi t , and cholars. The core of the archive i Primro e's own library of annotated scores, manu cript , recordings, and memorabilia. It al o contain a collection of all currently available viola core , recordings by other violi t , books, rreati e , and article per taining to viola pedagogy and history. Two documentaries featuring Primro e pro duced by KBYU-TV are al o part of the collec tion. They are A Violist 's Legacy and William Primrose, Violist, both di tributed by Shar, Inc. The acqui ition in 1981 of the International Viola Society's exten ive archive, formerly hou ed in the Mozarreum in Salzburg, purred an in crea ed effort to expand BYU's holdings.
