Communications, Newsletters and The Journal

The International Viola Society (IVG) and later the American Viola Society (AVS) have communicated news and information to their North American mernbership through periodicals bearing four distinct titles: (1) VFG Communications, (2) VRS Newsletters, (3) AVS Newsletters, and (4) Journal of the American Viola Society (JAVS). These reflect the successful developnlent of the VIOLA FORSCHUNGSGESELLSCHAFT1 (VFG) and its evolution to international status and national sections. They also indicate those publications under the American Section's original name, the Viola Research Society (VRS), and the upgrade of the newsletter format to that of afull-fleged journal in 1985. Four diistinguished viola scholars have served as editors of these publications in the first two decades of the organizations, as illustrated in the outline below:
