2024 American Viola Society Festival Artists
Anthony Devroye Anthony Devroye is violist of the Avalon String Quartet and Professor of Viola at Northern Illinois University. He has performed with the quartet throughout the US and internationally. The quartet’s recordings on the Cedille, Bridge, and Albany labels have garnered critical and popular acclaim. Outside of the quartet Mr. Devroye performs frequently with the Chicago Symphony and as a guest with chamber ensembles. He has spent summers teaching at the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, Interlochen, and Madeline Island. He is a graduate of Columbia University and the Curtis Institute, where he studied with Michael Tree and Roberto Diaz. Dominic Dousa Dr. Dominic Dousa has been a faculty member at the University of Texas at El Paso Department of Music since 2004. His compositions have received performances at recitals, festivals, and conferences in the U.S. and in 11 countries worldwide and his works have been published by TRN Music, Dorn Publications, Grand Mesa Music, and Leading-Tones Music. Dousa remains an active accompanist and chamber musician, performing in numerous recitals with faculty, guest artists, and students, including presentations with his fellow UTEP faculty member, world renowned cellist and 2017 Grammy-award winner Zuill Bailey. Hollie Dzierzanowski Hollie Dzierzanowski began her viola training with Emily Watkins Freudigman in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 12. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree in viola performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Stanley Konopka and Mark Jackobs. An avid teacher and performer in the DFW area, Hollie maintains a full violin and viola studio at Dallas College as Adjunct Faculty and plays as a section violist with the Amarillo Symphony and Abilene Philharmonic. With more free time than usual during the 2020 pandemic, Hollie began addressing Carrie Frey Carrie Frey is a violist, teacher, improviser, and composer based in New York City. Frey is the violist of the Rhythm Method (“a group of individuals with distinct compositional voices and a collective vision for the future of the string quartet” - I Care If You Listen) and founding member of string trio Chartreuse and quartet Desdemona. She has appeared with many of NYC’s notable new music groups, including Wet Ink Large Ensemble, AMOC*, Talea Ensemble, and International Contemporary Ensemble. Her compositions have been performed by the Rhythm Method, Arco Belo, Adrianne Munden-Dixon, and Kal Sugatski.
her chronic playing-related health problems and exploring different somatic methods. Studying with sponsoring teacher Jennifer Johnson, Hollie completed the Body Mapping teacher training and became a Licensed Body Mapping Educator.
