2024 Primrose International Viola Competition Competitors

Guohan Tang began learning the violin at the age of four. In 2012, he was admitted to the middle school of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, where he switched to studying the viola under Donglei Hou. Since 2018, he has been studying at the University of the Arts, Berlin with Hartmut Rohde. Throughout his studies, Mr. Tang participated in various music festivals and competitions, such as the Carl Flesch Academy, Tsinandali Music Festival, Oskal Nedbal International Viola Competition, among others. He attended master classes with teachers like Nobuko Imai, Lars Anders Tomter, Antoine Tamestit, Tomas Riebl, Roland

Glassl, and more. Mr. Tang was a recipient of the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship for three years (2019–2022). In November 2021, he became a member of the Academy of the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra, and in May 2022, he was awarded the Gerd-Bucerius Scholarship by the Deutschen Stiftung Musikleben. Currently, he is pursuing a master’s degree in Instrumental Soloist under Mr. Rohde at UDK Berlin.

Duleen van Gunsteren was born in 1995 in Noordwijk, Netherlands. He began his studies on the violin in the School for Young Talent in The Hague with Koosje van Haeringen. He continued his studies at the Conservatory of Rotterdam with Ron Ephrat and at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Marjolein Dispa and Nobuko Imai. Mr. van Gunsteren won third prize in the International Oskar Nedbal Competition in 2023 as well as in the Triomphe de l’Arc Competition in 2024. He won special prizes in the Chamber Music Competition Gelre with Duo Van

Gunsteren Keinänen in 2023 (the Grachtenfestival Prize) and the Amsterdam National Viola Competition in 2021 (the Leo Smit Prize). He has followed master classes with Isabelle van Keulen, Garth Knox, Pierre Henri Xuereb, Atte Kilpeläinen, Lilli Maijala, and Anita Mitterer, among others. Mr. van Gunsteren plays with various orchestras and ensembles, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, The Hague Philharmonic, Combattimento, and ASKO|Schönberg. He also likes folk music, improvisation, and singing.

Polish violist Kinga Wojdalska is an upcoming soloist and chamber musician known for her emotional performances. She premiered John Williams’ viola concerto in Europe with the Dohnanyi Budafok Orchestra in 2022. Ms. Wojdalska has won 22 competition awards, including the Karl Doctor Prize in the Lionel Tertis Competition 2019. She has received scholarships from the Hattori Foundation, Countess of Munster Musical Trust, and the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. A proud Varsovian, Ms. Wojdalska studied at the Zenon Brzewski Music School. Later, she completed her bachelor’s degree at the Royal College

of Music in London and her master’s soloist diploma at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Currently, she is continuing her education there under the direction of Lawrence Power and Sergey Malov. Chamber music is a significant part of her career. As a member of the Brompton Quartet, Ms. Wojdalska made her Wigmore Hall debut and recorded an album for Mathis Saunier and Noah Max. She co-founded the Polish ensemble Kameralna N – Harmonia and is a member of the Viktoria Mullova Ensemble. Ms. Wojdalska plays a modern viola by Jerzy Maślanka.
