Lecture-Recital Mayman Hall On Cultivating A Climate For New Music
Emily Hiemstra – This session will outline the process for building a call for scores, from the planning stages through the premiere performance. As a violist and composer, in 2020 Emily Hiemstra hosted her own call for scores during the COVID pandemic to promote and cultivate new music for solo viola when ensemble performances were not possible. Through her experiences in premiering eight new works from composers around the world, she gained skills in marketing, digital creation, fundraising, and extended techniques. This lecture will discuss these valuable tools in the hope of helping guide violists wishing to build a call for scores, as well as sharing selections from the final recording.
